IoT accelerator in London, help me assemble wearable devices, and Wazer!

Hi hardwarians,

Hope you’re well and enjoyed Makerfaire this last weekend. I just got back from my first manufacturing trip to China and it was quite the experience. Notable things included realizing the sheer number of small factories and manufacturing sites that are buried everywhere including in small garages, the incredible benefits of having a translator, and the experience of being taken to a restaurant with a menu that included cobra, cat and chicken (I ordered the chicken). If you want to help me assemble our first few hundred units, check out the job posting below.

I’ve been having some trouble getting a date for an October meetup at Microsoft, and am working to find another location – any suggestions for a place that can host 150 people free of charge would be very welcome!

Want to know who invests in hardware startups? Chris Quintero at Bolt tells you here.

Accelerators and Crowdfunding Campaigns

  • R/GA Ventures is pleased to announce its UK-based venture program, the R/GA IoT Venture Studio UK, focused on startups looking to develop connected products and services on a global scale. The program will be based at R/GA London's new connected headquarters. Applications are now open through November 14th and R/GA will provide the selected startups with direct access to its award-winning business transformation, strategic marketing, branding, design, and technology services as well as access to its network of clients, industry partners, global brand leaders, mentors, and investors. The program goes from February 6th to May 2017, ending in a Demo Event, at which each company will have the opportunity to present to an invited audience of investors, industry leaders, and press.
  • WAZER, who presented at our last hardware meetup, is the first desktop waterjet cutter, which cuts through any material using high pressure water. WAZER just launched on Kickstarter and is available for $4499.

Jobs@Hardware Startups

  • Kinetic, my startup, builds wearable devices to reduce workplace injuries for industrial workers. Want to earn some extra money and do me a solid by helping us assembly our first 300 units at our office in midtown? You must be hands on, meticulous and detail oriented and comfortable assembling electronic products. You will help us hand assemble the units and optimize the process as much as possible. Work will happen over 4 weeks in October. If you’re interested hit reply to this email or send me a note on [address removed]
  • Astrohaus, creator of the Freewrite, is a distraction-free writing device that launched on Kickstarter last year and subsequently shipped. They have a bunch of job openings which you can find here.

Keep building!

Haytham
