Last meetup of the year on Dec 8th, crowdfunding startup equity

Hey hardwarians,

Before you all eat your own body weight in Turkey (or is that just me?), I wanted to let you know that our final hardware meetup of the year will be on December 8th. I’ll announce it shortly, but pencil it in your calendars, and you can even RSVP here already. We’ll end the year with a bang, with presentations from Sidewalk labs, a subsidiary of Alphabet that builds technology to improve cities, BOND, a robot that writes handwritten letters, as well as everything you need to know to build the hardware and software for a Nintendo video game.

Previous Meetup

In case you missed last meetup, here were the companies:

  • Todd Schechter presented DogParker, a smart dog home where you can leave your pet while you do a quick chore. They got a neat write up in Techcrunch last week.
  • Aaron Aders presented Leiftech, a new electric skateboard that can perform the motions and turns of a snowboard, with some impressive mechanical design.
  • Aaron Rowley showed us his new product Vue, which is a totally new concept of smart eyewear. They just hit $1M on their Kickstarter campaign!
  • Greg Friesmuth showed us how you can control swarms of drones with a couple of lines of Javascript and their Dronesmith Technologies platform.
  • And of course, thanks to our sponsors, which include Canary, Microsoft and UrbanX!

Events, Accelerators and Crowdfunding

  • Applications are still open for Urban-X’s cohort 02, which will kick off in January 2017. Operated by MINI and SOSV HAX, we invest in and accelerate startups through a 3.5 month program, with hands-on mentorship focused on customer development, hardware development, design, partnerships, and fundraising. Apply now - https://urban-x.com/apply/
  • Indiegogo just launched their platform to do equity investments in startups. This sounds like an interesting initiative, and I’ll try to get someone to talk about this soon at one of the hardware meetups.
  • Previous hardware meetup presenter Alex Yoo, is crowdfunding the second version of his smart projector system, the ODIN2. It combines the big picture experience of a projector with the smart and convenient functions of a tablet, ODIN2 users can now take advantage of the million apps in the Android App Store, and project all their content in HD with this standalone device.

Keep building and Happy Thanksgiving!

Haytham
