Citibike presenting at next HW meetup on 4/6, Hardware Workshop and more

Hey hardwarians,

Hope you’re enjoying the beginning of Spring. Just a few quick notices for you – we’ll have our next meetup on 4/6 at 6:30pm and you can RSVP here. We'll have Citibike presenting on what it was like to build a bike for the streets of NY (and why they are re-doing the whole thing) and also The LightPhone, an awesome phone meant to be used as little as possible and let you focus on the world around you. I also had one presenter just cancel, so reach out if you want to present your startup at the meetup!

Events and Crowdfunding:

  • Marc Barros, founder of Moment, is bringing back the amazing hardware workshop to NYC in conjunction with the folks from Bolt. Also, Marc's company Moment is back on Kickstarter with a kit to make your phone a better camera. They blasted past their $500k goal.
  • Free Equipment: We are cleaning out an old laboratory in Teaneck NJ (30-40 min from NYC).  My aging scientist father would love to see anything salvageable put to good (hopefully scientific) use.  I haven’t measured all the items, but am happy to do so for anyone serious about taking the units. Items are free if you pick them up. More photos and contact info viewable at this link.
  • On April 3rd, the Phili hardware meetup is Sean O’Sullivan, founder and MD of SOSV (which operates many of the top hardware incubators and has $300m to invest in mostly hardware startups). As a case study, they will also feature the co-founder of VUE (they are currently at HAX, one of SOSV’s incubators – in China).
  • The Hackaday team is thrilled to announce the launch of this year’s Hackaday Prize competition! We are calling our curious, inventive, and tenacious community to use their skills to make world a better place. The 2017 Hackaday Prize consists of 5 challenges plus a Best Product challenge. We have over $250,000 in cash going out to hundreds of entries this year! The first round of the Hackaday Prize is a chance to pitch an idea and submit a Design Concept. All you need is an idea of what you want to build and a descriptive image. Check the official Hackaday Prize page for more details, rules, and important dates. Join us on hackaday.io to get your entry started and Build Something That Matters!

Jobs at Startups:

  • Jason Elrich MD from Medembed is looking for a technical person to help work on a healthcare related wearable for the purpose of gathering biological data. An understanding of the healthcare environment would be beneficial but not a necessity. You’re interested in working in a small team and are willing to accept equity for project work until the startup is funded. Contact Jason Elrich on [address removed]

Keep building,
Haytham
