Hey hardwarians,
Just when I finally decided to leave the soldering iron on the desk and get outside for some vitamin D, the World Cup goes and starts. I'm watching games of countries I didn't even know existed! Although in my case it's understandable since I could never get used to your American sports, where you need 5 hours of game time to get in 30 minutes of actualy play. Anyway, enough rambling, here are some interesting announcements for this week:
1) Get Your Ringly! Christina Mercando, founder of Ringly, a stylized connected ring that notifies you of the messages that matter most to you, is now accepting pre-orders on their website. They presented at the meetup 2 months ago and the ring seems really impressive.
2) AT&T Connected Intersections: $50,000 in prizes (Deadline: September 9, 2014)
AT&T is challenging technologists to create smartphone apps, wearable technology, custom hardware, and software solutions that keep pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers safe and alert on New York City streets and in other urban environments. How can the technology community come together to help reduce collisions on busy streets? What can you invent to augment the public’s connectedness to their immediate surroundings while reducing smartphone distraction?
Applications will be judged by urban transportation experts and tech innovators from AT&T, NYU Poly, NYU Rudin Center for Transportation Policy & Management, General Assembly, NYC Media Lab, and the NYC Department of Transportation.
3) Have you seen the Maker Map, a crowdsourced map with resources available for Makers? It includes location of makerspaces, incubators, suppliers and more, and has input from folks all around the world. It is an open source effort, and has been maintained by folks in San Francisco and here in New York at the Zahn Center. We are now looking for 2 or 3 folks who are willing to maintain it for a period of time and perhaps add some much needed feature enhancements to it. If you’re interested, please get in touch with Renee Diresta.
4) Crowdfunding Alert: Matt Harrington, founder of NY based BareBands, has just launched their crowdfunding campaign for some nifty customizable watches. Check them out and support!
1) Firmware Engineer: We are seeking an experienced embedded firmware engineer to help finalize a prototype for a consumer electronic.

Requirements: Embedded C/C++, Experience with ARM Cortex M0 (NRF51822 a plus), Experience with bluetooth protocols, Ability to make minor reworks to custom PCB's and devkits, Knows how to use and has access to a multi-meter and Oscilloscope.
Please contact Rene at with contact details, quick description of experience/gadgets you have worked on and an idea of what you charge (hourly rate, fixed fee, case of beer, etc.).
2) Hilario Castillo is looking for a biomedical/mechanical-engineer/team that can help in developing his new concept for a medical device into a prototype. He is already working with a junior mechatronics engineer as part of the team; however assistance is needed in developing this product. As a start-up without outside funding (yet) they are hoping to work with individuals that might have an interest in taking the project as an intern or being open to equity stake. Contact Hilario Castillo:
Keep building!
