Teaching Functional Programming and Haskell to CS Majors
Why Teaching Functional Programming through Haskell is Important for Undergraduate CS Majors by Evan Misshula There has been well documented surge in interest in computer science over the last five years. The CUNY system has has over 1,100 CS majors at Queens College and more than 700 at CUNY John Jay. Yet because of an outdated curriculum many will graduate unable to compete with students from bootcamps or ivy league universities. The talk will offer observations, based on experience teaching Haskell at CUNY, on how exposure to functional programming can help close this gap.

    What we're about

    Public Group

The NY Haskell Users Group is for all programmers either interested in or experienced with the Haskell programming language. We want to build a community of Haskell developers in the New York area that can share knowledge, projects, and experience, and to generally foster and encourage strongly typed functional programming, in all languages, all settings, and all industries. Our events center around talks, but we have also hosted social hours, code workshops, and a hackathon. Regular meetings are on the fourth wednesday of each month.

We post videos of all talks on our YouTube channel (
