• What we'll do
7:00 pm to 7:50 pm - CodeWorld: Creative Mathematics and Coding for Kids
by CodeWorld creator, Chris Smith

Bring your laptops. In this hour, we'll build everything from simple pictures
to multi-player games using CodeWorld, a web-based programming
environment for teaching creative mathematics and coding to middle
school students using a variant of Haskell. Be as ambitious as you like!
This session is appropriate for everyone from beginning programmers to
seasoned Haskell experts.

8:00 pm to 9:00 pm - CodeWorld: Under the Hood

In this talk, we'll look at how CodeWorld has adapted the Haskell
programming language and tools to an educational setting. Using a
combination of cross-compiling, pre-processing and post-processing,
language extensions, creative use of stack traces, strictness tricks, a
custom prelude, and even some deep runtime system black magic, we
have transformed Haskell into a fun and easy language for children.
Let's explore under the hood!
