Rockefeller Preserve Hike

Beginner Terrain • Intermediate Pace

5:00pm

Until Dave re-enters psyberspace, I will post and lead these hikes.  Upon his re-entry, leadership naturally will pass back to our one and only Monday night leader. Some of us go down to one of the riverside restaurants for burgers afterwards, feel free to join us for a bite to eat.

Contact: Feel free to post a question to the site or send me an email.  I'll send out a group email with my cell number 24 hours ahead of the hike so you can contact me for cancellations and directions.

Terrain: Easy to moderate, mainly rolling hills.

Distance: Including breaks, fiqure under 2 hours (about 1 hr 45 min). Approximately 4.5 - 5 miles.

Pace: Moderate to brisk. Although this is a beginner hike, and nobody gets left behind, we walk at a very brisk pace! Please assess your ability to keep this pace before signing up.

Meeting location: We will meet at the the MAIN Parking lot for the Rockefeller State Park Preserve.

The Parking lot is located on the south side of Route 117 approximately halfway between Route 9A to the East and Route 9 to the West. There are gates and stone walls at the entrance, a large horse-trailer parking lot, a little toll booth, a visitors center and a bathroom building.

Meet on the benches near the restroom.

Cancellation notices: I will cancel by 4:00pm if the weather looks dicey or if the hiking conditions are not great.

Pets: Friendly, well behaved dogs are welcome. The park requires dogs to be leashed at all times.  It is possible that we will encounter one or more horses with riders or carriages.

as of 11:30 am, a 20% chance of rain at 6pm - hike is of now a go. Generally I cancel if the chance of rain goes above 50% or if there is a chance of lightning. In either case the cancelation would be made both as a posting and an email by 4pm.
