What we're about

We are a meetup dedicated to advancing knowledge about Brain Computer Interface hardware, techniques and methodologies within the NYC area. A major cornerstone of this Meetup will be revolving projects that we will have week to week. The projects in this meetup will pertain to BCI applications and analysis of BCI data but we also will have speakers from time to time. We do have a focus on Machine Learning methods for BCIs but If possible we will be able to give classes on other neuroimaging software and analysis techniques and methods i.e fMRI, fNIRS, DTI, EEG. Also, we will definitely be reviewing interesting papers and will welcome those with publications to speak about their papers to the group. We are open to speakers giving talks about new methods or studies in regards to their BCI research or neuroimaging studies. We are also open to collaborative efforts with other meetups with similar interests. There will also be a happy hour after 7:30pm, so join us for a drink afterwards to nerd out!

Intro to the basics of programming in Python

You don't need to bring anything but a laptop if you want to for the first Intro to python training that we will be doing. Our agenda for today will cover: Intro to the basics of programming in Python • Strings, Characters, Lists, Strings as lists of characters, Variables, Statements, and Expressions • String operations, Print Statements, Operators, and stack diagrams and tracebacks • Origins of Python and brief history and its uses today • Basics of what functions are and the role they play in python • Importing packages and the functions that are within them. • Exercise for Today

Python Night - Functions and Intro to control structures

All you need to bring is a laptop. Our agenda for today will cover: Functions and Intro to control structures • Defining a function and lambda functions • Control Structures and what role they play in programming • For loop, while loop, if and then statements. • Talk about how variables are treated in control structures in Python. • Exercise for today: Read data in from a location on the web and locally using requests package and reading in a csv file or excel file.

Python Night-More advanced uses of control structures and Data Structures

All you need to bring is a laptop for today. Our agenda for today: • Advanced uses of Lists i.e. Nested Lists and List comprehension • Iteration in Programming and intro to Debugging. • Conditionals and Recursion • Useful functions in regard to lists: i.e. map, zip, reduce • Data Structures such as Dictionaries and Tuples and how we use them in python. • Exploring the type system in python • Exercise for Today

Python Night - Advanced session with Classes, Objects, Functions, and Methods

You don't need to bring anything but a laptop. Our agenda for today is: Advanced session Class with Classes, Objects, Functions, and Methods: • Classes and why we use them. • Objects, Functions, and Methods • Classes and how they interact with Objects, Functions, and Methods. • Why using Classes is important • If we have time talk about Functional Programming. • Exercise for today.
