Details

This is a series of regular monthly meetups for core devs - current and aspiring. The event features talks by cryptographers, protocol designers, and core developers. Talks will be brief, and technical, and we'll leave plenty of time for Q&A. After the presentations, we'll open the floor for questions and discussions about topics of interest.

Come learn with R&D staff from three projects, AVA Labs, FOAM Protocol, and Spacemesh.

Pizza and drinks will be provided by our sponsor, Spacemesh.

SPEAKERS

Emin Gün Sirer is Associate Professor of computer science at Cornell University and Co-Director of the Initiative for Cryptocurrencies and Smart Contracts. He is also Founder and CEO at AVA Labs (https://avalabs.org/), which is developing a new blockchain platform based on Avalanche consensus.

Iddo Bentov is a researcher at Cornell University and author of many
academic papers on cryptography and cryptocurrency. He has been
involved in the Bitcoin space since mid-2011, and more recently in
ventures such as Spacemesh (https://spacemesh.io) and StarkWare (https://starkware.co/).

Ryan John King is the co-founder and CEO of FOAM (https://www.foam.space), a spatial protocol for the Ethereum blockchain that provides secure Proof of Location services.

PROJECTS

AVA Labs (https://avalabs.org) is developing the Internet of Assets, based on a revolutionary new consensus protocol called Avalanche. Avalanche is super fast, secure and efficient, without any proof-of-work, and is the only protocol that can incorporate thousands to millions of participants in the consensus process. Check out the whitepaper (https://arxiv.org/abs/1906.08936), for more details.

FOAM (https://www.foam.space) provides the tools to enable a crowdsourced map and decentralized location services.

Spacemesh (https://spacemesh.io/) is a fair blockmesh operating system designed to run general-purpose smart contracts at web-scale. It is powered by a novel consensus protocol that is secure, proof of work-free and highly incentive-compatible. Spacemesh is designed to create a highly-decentralized p2p blockchain computer formed by individuals from around the globe running Spacemesh on their desktop PCs at home. It is a free, open source software that aims to become a core Internet protocol for blockchain computation. Check out the project brief (https://spacemesh.io/project-brief/), whitepaper (https://spacemesh.io/whitepaper1/), and FAQ (https://spacemesh.io/faq/) to learn more.
