  • Putting your design system into practice, hosted by MongoDB

Join us for our next meetup on putting design systems into practice, how they need to evolve alongside your product, and growing adoption. We'll have 3 x 10 minute lightning talks followed by Q&A with social time before and after. Doors open 6.30, talks begin 7pm. Snacks and drinks provided thanks to our hosts, MongoDB! SPEAKERS: **Deep Shah** is a product designer at MongoDB, where he leads design for MongoDB Stitch. He's previously designed for a myriad of different industries, and is drawn to supporting complex problem solving with design system thinking. He will probably try another route in the future. **Marissa Christy** is the Lead Product Designer at Paperless Post where she oversees the design within the e-commerce and native teams. • Design system API's and the developer experience

Join us for our next meetup focussed on the developer experience. Whether you're a designer or engineer, everyone interacts with the API of your design system so it's important to make this a great experience. From tokens to components, and everything in between, we all have difficult decisions to make when designing systems—what should be a variation vs a new components, which props or modifiers should we make available, how should we share system primitives or design tokens, what should we name things, and how do we make this all easy and efficient to use? Our speakers will share their experiences from the early stages to large-scale, and how they work to design a great development experience. SPEAKERS **Jenn Creighton** is a senior front end engineer at ClassPass where she writes code between workouts. She is likely to talk your ear off about React, JavaScript, or her hatred of CSS floats. She lives in New York City with her 2 cats, 1 dog & 13 succulents. Say hello to her @gurlcode! **Stephanie Manwaring** is a software engineer at XO Group in NYC. She makes up 50% of the Core Front End squad which is the team of engineers responsible for optimizing all things related to the front end as well as maintaining XO Group's robust UI pattern library. **Arielle Sullivan** is a software engineer at Betterment where part of her focus is contributing to the team's design system. She collaborates with designers every day to make powerful, easy to use tools and is excited to share some lessons learned along the way. **Connor McNabb** is a product designer with past stints in copywriting, frontend engineering, and digital advertising. Currently a Staff Product Designer at Betterment, Connor laments the “good-old-days” when he could sell clients on the idea of a design system while remaining naive to the challenges of maintaining one. SCHEDULE 6.30pm: doors open for snacks and social time 7:00pm: lightning talks begin 7:45pm: Q&A 8:00pm: More snacks and social time 9:00pm: Doors close

  • Bridging the gap

    ustwo

Our next meetup will be hosted at ustwo on Thursday, 19th April. Design systems help provide a unified language but the path to getting there can be challenging. Successful adoption is often due to the collaboration of a multi-disciplinary team. Our speakers will be sharing how they bridge the gap between design, development, content writers, and other stakeholders. Lightning talks will kick of at 7pm, followed by Q&A, and plenty of time for conversation with other attendees. Snacks will be provided thanks to ustwo! *Pedro Sepulveda* is a product designer with 15 years experience in developing products across web & mobile as well as building effective multidisciplinary teams. Before moving to New York to join ustwo, he has worked in Los Angeles for continuum innovations and in London for livework studio - one of the first service design studios in the world - as a design director. *Mike Perrotti* is one half of Meetup's design systems team. He comes from an art and design background, and thrives working in the big exciting grey-area between aesthetics and technology. *Fabian Perez* is a designer and advisor based in NYC. He currently serves as Director of Product Design at GitHub. He co-founded AppAction and previously led design teams at WeSpire, LevelUp, and SCVNGR.

  • Tools for collaboration

632 Broadway, New York, NY 10012

From design to development, team collaboration is essential for design systems adoption. Our speakers will share the tools and techniques that have helped them succeed. We're partnering with Figma who are hosting design systems meetups around the world! We'll have 4 speakers to sharing their experiences with time for Q&A after the lightning talks. Here's the line-up: **Noah Levin** Noah is the Design Manager at Figma, and occasionally enjoys the struggle-bus that is design systems. He recently moved back to SF after 2 years in NYC, where he previously led the design team at ClassPass. Before that, he spent 4.5 years designing iOS apps at Google, where he observed Material Design’s birth and development. **Natalya Shelburne** Natalya is a software engineer at The New York Times and an instructor at the Harvard Extension School where she teaches Modular Design Patterns with React. As a classically trained fine artist and designer, crossing disciplines and blurring the line between design and development is at the heart of much of her work. **Brent Jackson** Brent is a Principal UX Developer at Priceline.com and cofounder of Compositor, focusing on design systems, developer education, React architecture, and front-end design tooling. Previously at Kickstarter, Etsy, and The Grid, he has created and contributed to several open source projects, including Basscss, CSS Stats, Rebass, and Styled System. **Chesley Andrews** Chesley is a Senior Product Design Manager at Betterment where she leads their design systems working group. Previously a Product Designer and Manager at Etsy, she contributed to multiple style guide iterations. An experience designer at heart, Chesley cares about creating compelling, easily understandable interfaces that help people feel empowered and awesome. Location: Meetup! 632 Broadway, 9th Floor Time: 6.30pm—9pm Snacks and drinks will be provided (thanks to Figma). Final speaker details tba.
