IF I HAD TO PICK MY BEST EVENT, THIS WOULD BE IT. THIS COMPREHENSIVE HIKING TOUR OF CENTRAL PARK WILL COVER ALMOST THE WHOLE PARK. I HAVE LED TOURS OF BOTH THE NORTH AND SOUTH OF THE PARK FOR THE GUIDES ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK CITY (GANYC). THIS EVENT WILL BE BETTER.
Join me on a fun fast paced approximately 8-9 mile hiking tour of Central Park. I'll be breaking this event up into two parts and there will be a brief lunch stop. You can just do the first part if you want to but not just the second part because I don't know when we will break for lunch.
The first part of the event will be a fast paced comprehensive tour of the lower and middle part of the park. We will move at a fast pace but we will stop a number of times to talk very briefly about what we see. Central Park is really a work of art and you will see why. You’ll learn about the history of the Park and its unique design features that many people are unaware of. You will be sure to see things you never saw before. We'll stop to see some little known war memorials as well. Even if you have done this with me before, there is always something new.
We’ll then have a short lunch break and then we’re off to explore the northern part of the Park where we’ll see the sites of old forts, the Conservatory Garden and the North Woods where there are waterfalls-all manmade. (See photo by Sonia Bragh) For a short part of our journey we’ll be walking on very seldom used trails. There will be less stops on this part of the hike and less commentary.
I am going to request that everyone who attends this event make a monetary contribution but the amount of that donation is entirely up to you. Meetup charges an Organizer like me relatively little each month (although they just raised their rates) but I spend much time and effort planning and preparing for an event. You can contribute whatever you want either at the beginning or the end of an event or thru the website by clicking on Members and then the "Chip In" button to the left.
I am going to ask that people not post any comments or questions prior to the event. You have more than enough information to do this once you get the meeting details. No offense, but I don’t need to know-and neither does anyone else- what you are doing that day if you can’t make it or what you think the weather will be. These comments are really annoying. AFTER the event, post as many comments and photos as you like.
If the weather forecast is really bad, See Accuweather like I do, I will post a notice on the day of the hike by 7:00 A.M. If there is no notice, we go.
