2nd Floor, Room 1
Alla Gringaus, Web Technology Fellow of Time Inc., invites you to the Watercooler event with Google Engineer, Ilya Grigorick, on behalf of NYC.JS!
1. Making pretty (web fonts), fast
2. Automating web performance
Two for one! First, a deep-dive into Web Fonts: how they work, the data formats, performance optimizations, and tips and tricks for making your site both fast and pretty at the same time - turns out, these two goals are not mutually exclusive! After that, we'll take a look at mod_pagespeed, which is an "automagic" module for Apache server which to automate many of the web performance best practices: in-lining, combining assets, image optimization, improving cache life times, and many others.
Guest Speaker: Google’s Ilya Grigorik. Ilya is a web performance engineer and developer advocate on the Make The Web Fast team at Google, where he spends his days and nights on making the web fast and driving adoption of performance best practices. Prior to focusing on web performance Ilya was the founder and CTO of PostRank, a social analytics company which was acquired by Google and became the core of social analytics reporting within Google Analytics. Whenever not thinking web performance, or analytics, Ilya can be found contributing to open-source projects, reading, or building fun projects like VimGolf, GitHub Archive and others.
