Vivian Zhang will introduce how to download nyc open data by specifying filter conditions and give introduction to R.

07/07/2013 update

For anyone who is on the waiting list, I am extremely flattered by your enthusiasm. I arranged another repeated workshop held on July 29th. Please see http://www.meetup.com/NYC-Open-Data/events/128384002/

07/08/[masked]:45am update

The registration is closed. If you didn't register with your full name or haven't emailed me it, please attend next workshop if you are still interested. Most likely, the security crew won't let you in if your name is not on the list.

------------------------------------------------------

Before you come, it will be nice to consider
1. to install Rstudio before you come. You can download Rstudio from http://www.rstudio.com/ide/
2. to get youself a free github account, so you can get some R sources right away. sign up at http://www.github.com/

Agenda:
7:00-8:00   Vivian will explain what R is, what R can do, how R compare to other tools you might already know and use. And She will explain some R codes.

Due to the time limit, only data structure will be covered in the very first workshop, read more at https://github.com/hadley/devtools/wiki/Data-structures

8:00-9:00   individual hack time, you can make sure all the R codes run on your own PC before you go.

We need a lot of volunteers to walk around and help others to debug their codes. If you know R and are willing to help others out, please drop me a msg.  Thank you very much!

Thank PulsePoint to sponsor us space!

Can you please post the materials and presentation online. It looks like there are way more people who want to attend but just a few seats. What would all really appreciate this. Thanks again. :-)

I installed R studio and R. When I open R studio it says Fatal Error. I uninstalled it and reinstalled but the fatal error box pops up again. Should I come tonight anyway?

    July 8, 2013

    • André P.

I would also recommend installing R, any packages you think you might need, and trying them out, before getting into RStudio. If things go wrong, you only have to wrestle with R, not wonder whether the problem lies with R, or RStudio, or any miscommunications between the two.
