Walking the length of Manhattan sounds like a good idea provided we pick out a route that maximizes our photo opportunities. Broadway is the only street that runs from the nothern tip of Manhattan to the Battery. While it passes through such interesting places as Washington Hts, Columbia University, and the Upper West Side, I've found that the side streets offer more interesting opportunities.

We should also consider walking along the Hudson River. This would offer us some interesting views of the George Washington Bridge, the Palisades, and Battery Park City.

Subject: [NYCPhoto] Greetings!

Hello everyone!
Happy end of the summer and beginning of fall to everyone! It seems that it became fall quite quickly since the temperatures have dropped, the mornings are crisp and the shops have their halloween and thanksgiving decorations for sale.
Summer was a little crazy for me and fall has become even busier. We did a few outings, the Penn Station outing was a flop due to inadequate  planning (sorry everyone) and as it happens sometimes, I got busy and have left a lot of you wondering when our next meeting will be. I've gotten a lot of great emails from different people; some saying hello, others suggesting outings and many, simply curious as to when we'll be making some great photography together.
I'll run down quickly what I'm up to and what I think we can do.
I'm leaving this Friday for 2 weeks back home (Panama) and I hope to come back with lots of good photos to share. After Panama, I have a wedding the weekend of the 20th, Miami the weekend of the 27th, my sister is having a baby at the beginning of November and DC the weekend of the 9th of Nov. This all means that if we are to do an outing on a weekend, it'll have to wait until mid-november. HOWEVER, I am planning to organize a few outings for weeknights which should be fun, short and to the point. Or we could just go out for drinks or something of the sort. Or a social outing, like bowling!
I recently read this in the NYTimes and thought that it seem oddly familiar to what we do:
Anybody interested in doing this? Or maybe walking from one tip of Manhattan to the other? That might be our next big, weekend outing so get excited!
I am happy to deputize anybody that wants to lead an outing, so if you're interested, let me know.
Also, welcome to all our newest members! I'm sorry you've joined in what seems to be a little drought in terms of outings but I hope we can soon change that and that we can meet in person. We're almost at 900 members, do you think we can break 1,000 members by our next anniversary? I hope so!
welcome to everyone, hello to the veterans of NYC Photo Outings and for now, I want to share with you a few links I found that certainly think are relevant to our photo endeavors (or for our Commonwealth folks, endeavours): (NY Street Photography) (Rights and duties of a Photographer) (Amazing weather Photos)
I wish everyone a happy week and a great fall season. I'll see you all very soon!
