PyLadies: Unit Testing & Kubernetes (@ JOOR)
------------------------ DESCRIPTION: ------------------------ If you’ve heard about testing and unit tests but are not sure where they fit in the development process, you are at the right place. Learn the basics of unit testing which will give you the tools to validate the correctness of your code. You will also find out how a startup uses the deployment tool Kubernetes to improve their testing pipeline and code quality. ------------------------ AGENDA: ------------------------ 6:30pm - 7:00pm: Arrival / Networking 7:00pm - 8:00pm: Talks 8:00pm - 8:30pm: Wrap up / Networking ------------------------ SCHEDULE: --------------------------------------------- Intro to Unit Tests in Python --------------------------------------------- Yisselda Rhoc - Software Engineer / Contractor at Google https://www.linkedin.com/in/yisseldarhoc Yisselda will introduce you to the python unittest module. It will give you an idea about how to get started writing unit tests for your code. Unit testing is crucial because it is one of the earliest testing efforts performed on the code and the earlier defects are detected, the easier they are to fix. -------------------------------------------------------------- Testing Feature Deployments on Kubernetes -------------------------------------------------------------- Katie McKew - DevOps Engineer at JOOR https://www.linkedin.com/in/katie-mckew-a03ab564 Katie will demonstrate how JOOR is leveraging Kubernetes during the software development process to enable rapid iteration, testing, and deployment of code changes. With a few clicks, JOOR’s developers can spin up a fully functional instance of JOOR’s application and access the environment's unique URL to provide live demonstrations of their code for Product and Design acceptance. In addition to giving developers the tools to manually test, demo, and debug their code in a more production-like environment, these feature deployments also serve as an environment to run our automated Python end-to-end test suite. All this helps ensure bug fixes and new features are vetted and deployed quickly. ------------------------ ABOUT JOOR: ------------------------ JOOR is the world’s largest digital wholesale marketplace, connecting the best brands and top retailers for faster, easier, and smarter wholesale business.
