Search at Tumblr

Tumblr has made tremendous improvements on search in the past one year. In this meetup, Yufei Pan, director of search at Tumblr, will talk about underlying design, architecture, and algorithms of those exciting improvements.  He will also talk about various engineering challenges and tradeoffs to serve 100+ million daily searches with 60+ billion posts.

    Enjoyed Yufei's presentation--clear and concise. I do have a question about a slide that came up early on...the one that showed the chart of trends in tag do you do that in Tumblr if you're not one of their engineers?

    Very broad overview. However, the packages (Solr, Memcache) that Tumblr uses were only listed. A sufficient description of each would have been more informative. Although the questions of the audience showed they were very informed, at tutorial approach would have been better. The presentation took 25? minutes and could have been stretched to an hour.
