How did you hear about this group?

Came up in conversation with someone recently when I mentioned that I've been looking for more meetups of this exact sort (techies talking to fellow techies in detail about problems that they've encountered). There used to be a similar group up at Columbia (very small - just 15 people or so, and it only had a few meetings before getting absorbed by another group), but I enjoyed the presentation I went to.

What is your profession?

Currently, I am the hacker-in-residence at Quotidian Ventures. Previously, I worked on the data/server teams at foursquare and OkCupid.

What do you hope to get out of this group?

Primarily looking just to learn from others' experiences, but if there's any help I can provide in turn, happy to do so.

Would you be willing to present?

If people are interested in any of the problems I've had to grapple with in my work, absolutely!

Data scientist, functional programmer, hacker.
