This Historic Irvington NY walk is on scenic route filled with interesting places. I'll comment on architecture/history, but you will have plenty of time to socialize with others.
Cost: The cost of this event is $4 per person. which is paid at the start of the walk. This is for the organizer's Meetup preparation costs and fees. (Please read the "About Us Section" for more information regarding the $4 per person fee for each event.)
This walk is similar to a guided walking tour with a number of stops. If you don't like to stop at a number of points of interest, then this walk is not good for you. This walk is 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 miles at moderate pace. There are some ups/downs.
Bring Lunch or buy lunch near train station (THERE WILL BE NO PLACE TO BUY LUNCH DURING LUNCH BREAK.) Have comfortable walking shoes, water, extra layer of clothing, SUN PROTECTION. Bring bug spray (You probably won't need it but have it just in case.)
If you are registered for this walk and can't attend, please change your RSVP online from "YES" to "NO". (PLEASE READ THE "ABOUT US SECTION" FOR THE GUIDELINES REGARDING THE NO SHOW POLICY.)
As what usually happens on every event, many people from the waiting list will end up on the going list.
THERE IS NO NEED TO POST WHY YOU CAN'T MAKE THE EVENT.
No young children, pets, or service animals allowed on walk W/O prior approval of organizer. No smoking, please.
If you have a personal matter/question, please contact John (Event Host) directly to his private Meetup acct.
We'll go to the Lyndhurst Estate, which is a 67-acre estate, overlooking Hudson River. The Lyndhurst Estate (named after Linden trees planted on the estate) has Gothic mansion, carriage house, 19th century two-lane bowling alley, old greenhouse & a park-like landscape. The lovely rose garden will likely be in full bloom.
(Grounds of Lyndhurst Estate are free & open to pedestrians between dawn & dusk.)
Info/photos about Lyndhurst Castle/Estate.
We'll have lunch (starting at 2:15 PM or 2:30 PM) on grounds of picturesque Lyndhurst Estate. During lunch, you might want to have blanket to sit on the grass because there are not many benches.
We'll go past Villa Lewaro, a sumptuous 34-room white stucco mansion with red tile roof. This palatial mansion was designated Nat'l Historic Landmark in 1976. Villa Lewaro has a new owner.
Info/photos from Nat'l Trust for Historic Preservation about Villa Lewaro.
We'll also go past the Armour-Stiner House (Octagon House), which is a one-of-a-kind octagon-shaped & domed Victorian style house. This house is Nat'l Historic Landmark & has recently become a museum.
We'll also walk on Old Croton Aqueduct Trail (wide dirt/flat trail), which connects us to these mansions. We'll walk on paved trails/sidewalks much of the time.
