Dave, my email was a direct reply to Larry it had nothing to do with you.
For the record I have an engineering degree from one of the best schools in the country and I still stand behind what I said.
Within the RoR community an engineering degree or formal CS education is not important, there is nothing condescending about that statement.

Like, to someone's face, literally say "your engineering degree means very little", without preamble, without making the obvious caveat that many *do* mean something, or that any specific person's engineering degree might actually mean a lot?
I dunno--if someone said that, or a few of the other things emailed in this thread, to my face, I'd get pretty pissed off, and there would be words exchanged.
If this is the general nyc.rb attitude... I guess I want zero part of it, which is unfortunate.
