Thanks Luke. Summed it up nicely.
Dave - Don't let it be ruined. BS Comp Sci, MS Software Engineering, rubyist for several years. The opinions of a few in here do not reflect the feelings or opinions of the group.
This thread has run its course. It's getting to be embarrassing for all parties involved. Let it die already. If you want to go to the class, go to the class. If you disagree with something related to the class then that's fine too.
No matter which side of the fence you're on, there's no reason to be spouting off insults and hate here. Enough is enough.

In any case, I'm done--nyc.rb is pretty much ruined for me, before my first in-person meetup, before I had a chance to contribute back.
As a long-time NYC.rb'er, I'd like to mention that you and others would be making a mistake to judge NYC.rb based on this thread. I've learned a ton and made great friends through NYC.rb, and rarely encountered the kind of meanness in this conversation.
For those newer to Ruby, you may not yet have encountered the acronym MINASWAN. "Matz Is Nice And So We Are Nice". Matz in this is, of course, the creator of Ruby, who created this language to be a joyful experience to develop in. I try to embody MINASWAN in my dealings with the Ruby community and NYC.rb and I think it's a fine ideal for us all to shoot for.
