There's a small, free marketplace of Rails mentors and apprentices at I've been a mentor on there for a couple of years and had some great experiences meeting folks for coffee. I'd highly recommend hopping on there if you're interesting in mentoring or apprenticing.

Hi Nicholas,

If you're looking for a Ruby/Rails tutorials, my company, Cyrus Innovation, offers Ruby training with David A. Black.  David is the author  of the Well-Grounded Rubyist, and is a respected figure in the Ruby/Rails community.  He also happens to very much enjoy working with beginners, and has been giving his Ruby Nuby presentation at various locations in NYC for the past few months.

The format of the training is fairly open-ended.  If you think there are others at your company who are looking to learn, we could offer a group course, otherwise individual tutoring could be arranged.  Let me know if you're interested and I'm sure we can work something out.

p.s. FYI I'm a Scrum Master and Ops Manager at Cyrus, but am currently learning Ruby/Rails myself.  I'm hosting my Ruby Blind meetup at Cyrus HQ in a few weeks, check us out!

Hi, Rubyists -

After working with Rails devs for 6 years, I'm finally ready to suck it up and learn a bit myself.

Planning to use this textbook ( but would like a 1x/week session with a tutor.

If you offer this, or know someone who does, please hit me off-list.  We can meet at my office (West Village) or I can come meet you somewhere else.

Prefer someone who has done this before and knows they have enough patience to deal with a noob.
