Monthly Meetup at Jimmy's No. 43 - Harvest, Winter Squash and Apples

For our October Meet-Up, we are celebrating the harvest and U-Pick season by focusing on pumpkin/winter squash and apples.

Since winter squash and apples are both botanically fruits, they only need a short ferment due to their high sugar content, otherwise, the ferment can get alcoholic.

Here are some recipes to get your inspiration flowing:

Fermented Butternut Squash from the Phickle blog

Fermented Butternut Squash with Sage from Culture for Health

Butternut Kimchi from Mother in Law Kimchi

Squash, Cabbage and Kale Kimchi from Stronger Together Co-op

Pumpkin Spice Kombucha from Kombucha Home

Pumpkin Pie Water Kefir from Loula Natural

Pumpkin Pie Dairy Kefir from Cooking Gods Way

Fermented Squash Chutney from Mother Earth News (Kristen Shockey)

Fermented Apples from Empowered Sustenance

Fermented Applesauce from Cultures for Health

Apple Spice Sauerkraut from Fermented Food Lab

Fermented Apple Spice Chutney from Raia's Recipes

Fermented Apple Salsa from Leda Meredith (via Just Food's website)

Apple Cinnamon Kombucha from Cultures for Health

Everything that everyone brought was excellent! Even the very simple stuff was great! Anybody that asked for recipes, cultures or how to ask questions please send me your e-mail address or go to www.culturesgroups.net or culturesgroup at Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. Alan's ginko nut story was fascinating. Welcome to all the new members! If any body (2) really want to go to see Sandor Katz and also sample some amazing foods like cheeses from Crown Caves and ferments from Crock and Jar at the Just Food benefit let me know? [masked]
