Trader Success Team / Accountability Partners

  • Sep 5, 2014 · 3:30 PM
  • To be disclose to confirmed participants

This meeting is for a small group of full-time independent traders who have already DECIDED that they want to meet, on a regular basis, in a working group of fellow traders to review specific trades, strategies and plans. The format will be structured and specific. (This correlates to what is commonly called a "mastermind group", but to avoid confusion with the concept as used by Online Trading Academy, we've chosen a different terminology.)

This meeting is NOT about forming a working group. This meeting IS the working group launch session.

We've announced and discussed its formation in past meetings. (See my memos of August 2 and August 16, 2013 on our message board.)

To review the most salient points: Participants MUST have (1) a written trading plan, (2) a willingness to share it with the team, (3) a commitment to prepare a brief bi-weekly presentation to the group with at least one actionable trading idea and (4) a willingness to make a financial investment in the group to make it operationally sound and effective.

For starters, we'll meet once every two weeks until we hit our stride and determine if we want to move to a weekly schedule. We've chosen Friday afternoons as the best time to review the week's trading activities and prepare for the week ahead. For the moment, we are only talking about in-person meetings; we may consider an on-line group in the future.

The topics I propose for our launch meeting:
1) Trading Resolutions for 2014
2) Overview of our written trading plans (show-and-tell!)
3) Our trading plans for the coming two weeks
4) Best Actionable Idea
5) Format for future meetings; our guidelines and agreement with each other.

Our launch group will be limited to eight people. If we wish to add additional people in the future, or replace departing members, we will have a plan in place for how to do this. [ ]

Unlike our welcoming and inclusive general sessions, this is NOT an open group. If you have made the decision to team up with accountability partners to sharpen your trading performance, this may be right for you.

The mid-town Manhattan meeting location will be provided to confirmed attendees. PLEASE ANSWER THE QUESTIONS at the bottom of this form when you make your reservation. Thank you!

The date is being pushed forward to keep the IDEA, not the EVENT, alive in the system. I don't think it will actually take place because it is difficult to get people to notice and comply with the stated requirements, such as a written trading plan. Perhaps someday...

Sounds like a great idea but admittedly there is no way that my compliance will approve such a broad and open meeting without certain legal protections. I will send people (without the onerous compliance issues for a trader) your way.

Thanks for posting, M.W. This group is designed for independent traders who trade for their own account; they are their own employer, so they don't have compliance issues. So far, the response has been thin. A number of people expressed interest, but didn't follow through on the execution side.

I have changed the date of our launch meeting to give prospective participants a chance to read the specs and prepare. Note that people who did not fill out the sign-up questions (including cell phone number) will not be able to attend because the meeting location is to be sent via text message. This is intentional. As a highly interactive working group, we need to be able to reach you (in case you are delayed in transit) to confirm that you're on your way. We won't be able to start the meeting without you! There are other requirements, such as being a full-time trader with a written trading plan. PLEASE READ THE SPECS and think it over. This is not just a meeting, it's a commitment.

It bears repeating: This is a WORKING group, not a meeting about forming a working group. We will immediately drill down into the agenda, working with our WRITTEN trading plans. Please make sure you fill in the questionnaire attached to the signup form. Thanks!

I trade weekly options. A meeting on Friday afternoon is bad for me as I invariably need to tend to my flock of open option positions.

You've raised a good point, Milton. We initially picked Friday because it is a good time to review the trading week just ended and to plan our trades for the coming week. Selecting Saturday or Sunday imposes an obligation for people to come into Manhattan when they may have family obligations, etc. Milton, do you have another time in mind? There may be enough demand to support more than one group, perhaps divvied up by asset class (e.g. a special group for options traders).
