NYCC (New York Culture Club) is a social and educational cultural studies organization. Essentially we are a combination book club / cultural immersion group. Our goal is to embrace and appreciate the diversity of our world, and the people within it, while engaging in a social and entertaining experience that take us around globe via the city of New York.

Every quarter we choose a country or culture and create a program of relevant and accessible activities. The group meets approximately every three weeks and the meetings will range from general discussions, guest speakers, documentaries, trips to museum, dance lessons, festivals, tours, cultural events, etc. Often we will meet in a restaurant to experience the cuisine and field trips are a big part of the experience.

Everyone is encouraged to choose a book about that country that corresponds to their particular area of interest and to learn as much as they can during the timeframe. The book(s) you choose can be anything from ancient history to current events, fiction or non, cookbooks to textile design. Basically, we want everyone to get excited about some aspect of the culture and to share that knowledge with the rest of the group.

Coming up soon: Zimbabwe, Brazil, Korea, Ukraine.

We are typically a smallish group and prefer people who are dedicated to taking part in most of our events, rather than people who only occasionally attend. This is not a sit-back experience, but an opportunity to be fully engaged and participatory, including taking on responsibility for contributions and organization. There are fees for individual events as necessary.

If this sounds interesting to you, then please apply for membership. We will read the answers to your application questions seriously, and will select individuals based on their willingness to fully participate and add to the knowledge base of the group.

Thanks for your interest & we look forward to hearing from you!!
