Folks, you have been following my documentary project for some time regarding the great avante garde Asian American jazz composer, FRED HO, who has advanced stage cancer. And now, you have a rare opportunity to hear Fred's music, live at the Brooklyn Academy of Music! Fred's disease is progressing, and yet he is still continuing his mission to bring his creative work to the world. That makes him a great inspiration to all of us filmmakers who have a story to tell.

Please come and attend this concert on Friday or Saturday. Tickets are cheap! -- Steven De Castro

Conceived and composed by Fred Ho
Green Monster Big Band
Choreography by Fred Ho and Emmanuel Brown
“An activist as well as a musician, Ho’s arrangements are as outstanding and unique as Ali’s boxing style.”
—Jazz Word
What could an 18-piece big band learn from the guy who knocked out George Foreman in the eighth round? To wield incredible power yet remain light on its feet? To embrace all cultures with compassion? To take enormous risks—and persevere?
In this deeply personal evening of music and dance, composer Fred Ho’s Green Monster Big Band channels the spirit of Muhammad Ali and other fighter figures who knew how to take punches while standing their ground. Performing choreography by Ho and Emmanuel Brown (a lead in Broadway’s Spiderman), dancers Jerry Ford, Teake, and Brown himself invoke everything from lightning-quick martial arts to the bounce and sting of Ali’s dazzling footwork. Marie Incontrera conducts Ho’s exuberant jazz score as it delivers a swaggering, brassy testament to the champion’s strut, color-blind vision, and humanity.
