New York Night Photographers

Let's visit New York's newest and most unique parks: Little Island and the High Line! The former is an island created on the reminants of Pier 54, where the Titanic intended to dock. They created concrete pilings to hold up an island with plantings and other natural features with unique views of the city.

Another way the city created something new from something old is the High Line, an old railroad line turned into a pedestrian walkway stretching from Gansevoort Street up to 34th Street mostly following along 10th Avenue. What had been a secret haven for street artists in the bohemian section of the art galleries of Chelsea is now open to all as a city park.

We'll be taking the opportunity to get away from the shoreline and then above the city from interesting perspectives and explore paths and hopefully some new springtime flowers on the new island and among the old train lines with new plantings.

We'll meet at Pier 54's Cunard/White Star Line archway on 11th Avenue between 12th and 13th streets and start on Little Island for sunset at 7:40 before making our way to Gansevoort Street and continue up onto the High Line and proceed north until people are done, breaking up into smaller groups as needed to avoid creating an impediment to others, as those pathway can get narrow at times.

We will explore hidden corners of the majestic San Marco basilica, tour the iconic Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge from a lofty rooftop, and take in panoramic views from the towering campanile. We'll be wandering one of the world's most beautiful cities capturing reflections and adding in light painting and orbs as we go to teach you how to create shots you'll love.

This Meetup took a hiatus during the pandemic and a lot of that was because I was in Venice for weeks at a time over the past three years, allowing for an intimate knowledge of Venice that I now want to share. You will be rsponsible for geting yourself to Venice but we'll meet you at the airport and take a water taxi to the hotel near San Marco, during the morning we will review your images and have classes, take a break in the afternoon for personal sightseeing, and then gather to shoot sunsets and into the evenings.

Costs include double occupancy lodging, water taxis to and from the airport, water bus pass for the week, and any admission to museums or churches in the itinerary. Non-photography guests can also be accomodated with a small cost to cover passes and admissions, please inquire for details!
