    Grab your beach towel and favorite shucking knife, because we’re going on an oyster farm tour! The cool crew at Hummock Island Oyster Co. (http://www.hummockisland.com/) in Westport, CT have agreed to host a private farm tour and all-you-can-shuck oyster tasting on Sunday, June 25th for our cohort. Learn how oysters are grown as we get an insider's look at the processing plant and then travel by boat across Sherwood Mill Pond to our private island. Once on the island, we'll learn a bit about the history of oystering in Connecticut and how Hummock Island Oyster Co came to be. We'll end the tour with an oyster feast on the front porch of the island house overlooking the water. . . . Time: Meet at Grand Central Terminal (by the clock) at 9:45 AM to take the 10:02 AM train to Westport, CT. Make sure to be on time. The train waits for no one! We'll arrive at 11:16 AM. Tour starts at 11:30 AM. You're welcome to return to the city whenever you'd like.     Hello Oyster Lovers, When do oysters turn green and become suspects in a murder plot? What do oysters have to do with getting kicked out of your town for 10 years? Learn the answers to these questions and more in an interactive cooking workshop that traverses the history of our most festive bivalve! On Monday, Dec 12 at 6:30 pm, we'll be meeting in the kitchen at Brooklyn Foodworks (http://www.thebrooklynfoodworks.com/) (630 Flushing Ave, Fl 2; off the G Flushing stop). I'll be demonstrating how to make oyster stuffing (with tastings, of course) and everyone will have a chance to shuck oysters. If you still haven't mastered the art of shucking, this is the perfect opportunity to learn in a low-key environment. We'll venture between celebratory oyster dishes for ancient and modern times, and you'll come away with a new appreciation for the oyster's role in luxurious living. In fact, there are oyster shell middens along the East Coast created by Native Americans that date back thousands of years. We can't say for sure, but it's highly likely that oysters were at the first Thanksgiving dinner. It is therefore only appropriate that our next event will be at Dorlan's Tavern (http://dorlans.com/) (213 Front St), nestled in the heart of the Financial District and the oldest part of New York.
