FIELD TRIP: SHEEPSHEAD BAY, BROOKLYN, FRIDAY 2PM, MAY 16, 2014,

Leaders Paul Grebanier and Susan Sigrist will lead a walking photo tour of Sheepshead Bay. The neighborhood was settled after the Civil War, when visitors from the City discovered this pastoral village-by-the-sea, with cool ocean breezes and great seafood. By the 1870’s, the area was a bustling beach community, with several hotels, its own racetrack, and many restaurants. Modern Sheepshead Bay retains much of its charm, and visitors from around the Tri-State Area come down to stroll along the bay, shop and dine on Emmons Avenue, and go fishing on charter boats.  For more info see:

Coming from Manhattan? Meet Susan and attendees for the "B" train at the front of the West 4th Street Station at 1PM and we'll all travel together to the Sheepshead Bay Station.

After the tour we'll stop at a local eaterie and grab a bite (dutch treat!)

There is no charge for this event!

Great but a little windy and wet. We got better images because of the weather than we might have if it were bright or cloudy bright. Check out Chris Lord's wonderful images to see how he interpreted the scene.

Good idea to have a trip back to Sheepshead Bay!

I love shooting in Sheepshead Bay but then again its my home. I think we revisit this location and if everybody is willing do it later at night. Good company and a scenic location will always make for an enjoyable experience (if only mother nature cooperated). The weather prevented this from being a 5 star event.

Marcie, of all the places to eat in the Bay, El Greco's would have NOT been my first choice. lol

I've been to the Bay late at night and early morning and have gotten some great shots. I'm fond of setting up on the Manhattan beach side and shooting (with a tripod) across the bay to the Emmonds ave side. The sail boats in the early morning fog are beautiful.

Good place for photos, but cold and wet and windy. I like rain, but that was too much! Still had a pretty good time, though.

Parking is a bear in the bay there's a munici parking lot but I think its 2 hours max. I think that's the main reason the party fishing boats left.

Phil! Another unintended consequence of government regulations. Or maybe intended for destroying the neighborhood business! Ed
