GenCon 2014

So GenCon is next week. For those of you who don't know, it's the largest annual board gaming convention out there, and it's not too far away, in Indianapolis.

There's going to be booths for every game publisher out there with about 250 new board games planning to be on display to demo or purchase, and there will be tons of events to play just about any game you can imagine, as well as lots of neat things you can only find at the convention like giant life-size versions of many of your favorite board games.

I know several people in this group are planning on going. This is not a formal meetup, this is so people can say whether or not they're going, so they know who else in the group is going and can possibly discuss arrangements to meet each other at some point while they're there.

DO NOT go there expecting to find me or for everyone to meet up and do everything together at this convention. Just post which days you're planning on going in a comment, and if any of you feel like meeting up, awesome.

We picked up zombie fried. A card game a little like munchkin except you can fight your choice of 4 zombies each round.

I have not purchased a badge just yet, but I'm currently planning on attending on Saturday. It will be my first GenCon. I haven't signed up for any events, but I expect I will be mostly busy wandering about from booth to booth, seeing all the new games being offered.

I may also try to do some casual networking with designers or publishers while I'm there (depending on how I feel). I have a couple of board game designs in the works, and one of them may interest a publisher or two, but we'll see. I also may help a friend pitch his game that day.

I might be up for meeting for dinner, or wandering along with a few people here.

I'm probably not going to have much in the way of materials prepared for it. Basically the only thing I would have ready to show is the app for Proximity, which could be made into a board game (in fact, I've been contacted about doing just that before, but the guy stopped contacting me after only two emails). I'm not really expecting to make any real progress here, I'm mostly just going to meet some people and mention it if it seems appropriate. I will prepare more for future conventions, and actually have printed playable prototypes. http://www.gamespot.c...

This is my first time at Gen Con. I'll be there with a local friend from Thursday to Sunday. My schedule is pretty loose as I'll most likely be spending majority of time checking out the vendor hall. I'm up for dinner or drink if anyone wants to get together.

We've got a fairly open schedule this year, and if you see Adrian or me, say hi! We're arriving Wednesday and staying at the Embassy through 'til Monday morning. We'll be at Kilroy's Wednesday night enjoying $4 long island pitchers, but most everything else is up in the air! If you have my number, text me if you're looking for stuff to do. We'll do the same. Also, if you see the Frog God Games booth, stop by and have a peek at Razor Coast! We're nominated for 5 ENnie Awards including Best Setting and Product of the Year! (Yeah, I'm bragging. I'm excited!!)

I am taking a year off from Gencon this year. However next year will be back in full swing. Also I recommend going down on Wednesday. It's a blast at all the local bars
