What we're about

We meet for two 25 minute periods of silent seated meditation (zazen) with 10 minutes of walking meditation between them. First time visitors should arrive 15 minutes early for an introduction to our practice. Wear comfortable clothing for sitting on cushions (zafus). No need to bring a cushion, but you are welcome to bring your own if you'd like.

We are a practice group taught and guided by ordained Zen priests at the Rinzai Zen temple in Chicago (Daiyuzenji).

Wear comfortable clothing; think yoga or sweats. Jeans are probably a bad idea. Everything else is provided, but if you have your own cushion, feel free to bring it.

Monthly Zen Meditation Practice for Beginners

The first Sunday of every month is for beginners or anyone new to our practice. This is the best time to come, learn and ask questions. The first 30 minutes of this session will be tailored for instruction about zazen (seated meditation) and our methods and practice in general. Please arrive by 8:00am and wear something comfortable. Jeans should be avoided. Shoes will not matter, since you'll be barefoot. After instruction we'll have zazen between 8:30 and 9:30 with walking mediation in the middle. Established members and return guests, please also join this day as we will be having zazen, but perhaps less formal depending on the attendance.
