Peace River canoe / kayak trip in Arcadia, FL

Join us for the Fall Peace River Canoe Trip!

Paddle the Peace River and enjoy a quiet, peaceful float along Florida's most popular State Paddle Trail. View towering cypress trees with moss beards and soaring birds, hear the rippling water, and the meaning of the true Florida becomes apparent. Be transported back to the days of the first explorers as you explore this piece of Florida from days past.

Carpools will leave Naples around 9:30am for the drive to Arcadia. You can also drive yourself if you want. We need to be at the Canoe Outpost at 11am for check in. The bus leaves at 11:30am and takes us upstream to Brownville, where we paddle and float 8 miles with the current, back to our cars. The trip takes about 3-4 hours of leisure paddling, which includes some breaks along the way. This is a very easy trip, even if you've never canoed or kayaked before. We usually are back home by early evening.

Fees: Your half of the rental fee for a canoe or tandem kayak is $21.40 (paddle, life jacket, and plain seat cushion included). If you want to rent a solo kayak, you'll pay the full price of $42.80. Note that if you are reserving a solo kayak, you will only be charged the half price rate when you RSVP. You can pay the organizer the remaining balance the day of the event.

For extra comfort, canoers can rent cushioned seats with back rests for $4 extra - they are recommended.

DESIGNATED KAYAKER: When all the RSVPs are in, we sometimes end up with an odd number of canoers. If this is the case, we will pay the extra amount for a solo kayak. On the day of the trip, if you would be willing to change from a canoe to a solo kayak, or take a shift in a solo kayak, please indicate your choice by answering the questions when you RSVP.

Children: Kids are welcome to join us. However, it can be a long day, so this trip is not recommended for younger children. Feel free to contact Rob E. if you have questions, or check the Canoe Outpost's website (link below) for more recommendations and the fee structure for children.

What to bring: Bring a picnic lunch or snacks and plenty to drink while on the river. Also remember to bring sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, bug spray, and some gas money for carpool drivers. You can also bring a change of clothes and towels to leave in the vehicle for after the trip. Dressing rooms and an outdoor cold water shower are available.

Waterproofing: Don't bring anything that can't get wet. While we're not planning to tip over, you never know. Put all gear, especially cameras, in waterproof containers. Ziploc bags are recommended for smaller items. Leave air in bags so they will float if the canoe capsizes. Disposable waterproof cameras recommended. We also recommend leaving all valuables locked in your vehicle. The Outpost will be glad to hold your keys.

More details about the trip and river conditions are available at Canoe Outpost's website. Come join us for an enjoyable day trip along one of Florida's scenic rivers.

I don't think we need to worry about that. They don't call it the Peace River for nothing.

I will be bringing one of my kiddos. I will be bringing my own kayak. Is there a put-in fee for bringing your own at the entrance??
