  • NCTE Monthly Meeting

    Ramsey Solutions

Hey Everyone! I hope you're all having a great summer. Join us this Thursday to get together with like-minded people involved in tech and business. We'll discuss our group, where we'd like to head, and what we'd like to do to best maximize our time and impact. In addition to that, I'll lead a short devotional on the value of single-mindedness in a culture that often encourages us to move in 1000 directions. We'll start at 6pm, with pizza and drinks provided. I look forward to seeing you then! Adam

  • NCTE Monthly Meeting - Corner to Corner Nashville

    Nashville Software School

Join us this month as we hear from Will Acuff from Corner to Corner Ministries ( http://www.cornertocorner.org/) which is doing great work in East Nashville. Here's a short description of who they are from their website: Corner to Corner is a Christian nonprofit that exists to extend hope to every corner of our community. We do this by attacking the cycle of despair often caused by high-rates of incarceration, in a model we call “Connect, Invest, Grow.” 1. Connect With Missional Living in mind, we intentionally moved into our under-resourced neighborhood. Through the ministry of consistency, we became a part of the fabric of the neighborhood. Nine years later, our current house has become a safe haven for kids and teens to come grab a snack, a book, or someone to listen. As a neighbour we share in the burdens and struggles affecting our area. 2. Invest We partner with the cornerstone of our community, a local recreational center called McFerrin Park. Four years ago, we began meeting there to teach free job readiness classes for former offenders, led by Tiffany, a certified Offender Workforce Development Specialist. Studies show that incarceration reduces the likelihood of employment by up to 50%, and that unemployment is one of the top two predictors of Recidivism. We have witnessed redemption and rehabilitation experienced through getting meaningful employment, with over 100 people having come through our jobs classes. We then partnered with the Rec Center staff on a reading tutoring program for elementary age kids. Over 55% of the students in our district are less than proficient in Reading skills, a problem compounded by the poverty that affects over 78% of our high school students. Literacy is the biggest common predictor of whether a youth will graduate High School. Since studies have also shown a higher rate of imprisonment among dropouts, this tutoring became a critical part of our ‘Invest’ strategy. We now average 20 kids per week in our reading tutoring. 3. Grow With the relationships built through the Connect and Invest approach, we began community group Bible studies. These groups create networks of support for individuals and families. Community groups recognize that we are All in need, and together, we move forward in Hope. We are excited to share that our leadership team also includes friends that first began a relationship with Corner To Corner as students of our Jobs Class and community Bible studies. This model of discipleship is the vision that we have for the future of this ministry.

  • NCTE Monthly Meeting - Jeff Mikres from LifeWay

    Creative Trust

Join us as Jeff Mikres presents on product development and management. Here is a synopsis of what he'll be talking about : Google Venture's design sprint process represent an effective and proven way to ideate around new product development. They've used it with hundreds of companies as well as with internal teams at Google. The process involves a 5-day plan that culminates on a Friday putting your prototype in front of real, potential customers to get feedback. This talk will walk you through the basics of what happens during those 5 days and will give you the tools to come up with your own product ideas and get them in front of customers. It'll also touch on the recent design sprint run at LifeWay for a potential new product. If you develop products and ideas for users, and haven't read Sprint (https://goo.gl/csjGk4), I highly recommend it. Jeff will also be doing a short Q&A after he presents. Location listed above is an office building. We will be in Suite 200. ** Pizza and drinks will be provided.
