Zimbabwe is quietly becoming a must-visit travel destination. It's an under-the-radar, spectacular place that the BBC’s former Africa correspondent Michael Buerk called “the most beautiful country on the continent.” The country made Lonely Planet’s recently released list of Best Travel Destinations for 2019, naming Zimbabwe one of the top countries (#3) to visit this year. Zimbabwe, or just Zim as the locals say, is poised to take off in the coming years. There’s really no reason not to go and every reason to hurry before the rest of the world catches on! Zimbabwe is on travelers' radar as it offers the ideal combination of everything needed for an unforgettable safari destination with a wealth of wildlife yet a scarcity of visitors, along with exceptional lodges, guides and hospitality and overall striking natural beauty. And with the dramatic shift in its political environment last year, everyone in the know knows it’s time to go! As Lonely Planet noted, Zimbabwe has always been a country that travelers have raved about – it’s one of Africa’s safest destinations, blessed with ultra-friendly locals, teems with Big Five wildlife in exceptional protected national parks, and boasts World Heritage-listed archaeological ruins, forested mountains, and of course, the incredible freak of nature that is Victoria Falls - one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World! Considered an exclusive place to travel, the country is a premier safari destination in the continent. If you haven’t experienced the incredible Zim safari scene, this is your opportunity. It’s an experience that will stay with you for life! This is a high-end, thoughtfully designed small group safari trip that uses locally-owned 4 star luxury camps and provides a non-touristy, intimate and sustainable experience. Highlights of the trip include exploring some of the country’s most impressive natural beauty: mighty iconic rivers like the Zambezi with the planet’s most famous waterfall, which is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World (Victoria Falls); a magnificent treasure trove of wildlife on game-filled plains in the largest national park in the country (Hwange); and incredible granite boulder fields strewn about & balancing on top of each other throughout the hills that are also adorned with sacred, ancient San rock art (Matobo Hills). Aloha, fellow Gen Xers! Calling all nature lovers & adventure seekers - grab your sunscreen, camera & backpack! Get ready to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of island life on this unique trip to the beautiful, rustic side of Maui! Blog Post from last October's trip - http://www.14weekends.com/blog/glamping-adventures-maui That's right, we’re off to the Hawaiian island of Maui (the Valley Isle) to unplug from the real world & take some well-deserved time to enjoy the remarkable hospitality of Hawaiian culture and the peaceful serenity of the natural beauty all around you. We'll be traveling over Halloween week, so as a bonus, you'll be able to celebrate Halloween with the locals at the popular Annual Halloween Festival! The Hawaiian Island of Maui is beloved for its incredible world-famous beaches, the super scenic Road to Hana, epic snorkeling with sea turtles, Haleakala’s magnificent volcano crater, and the island’s exotic ecosystems. We’ll settle right into nature while comfort-camping at Camp Olawalu on the beautiful western coast of Maui. This sunny northwest coastal haven was once a retreat for Hawaiian royalty and the capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Just a few miles up the road is Lahaina. Once known as Lele, which means “relentless sun” in Hawaiian. Lahaina is a historic town that has been transformed into a Maui hotspot with dozens of art galleries and a variety of unique shops & restaurants. The southern portion on the West Coast is where you’ll find the gorgeous Makena Beach with panoramic views of the islands of Molokini and Kahoolawe. We’ll also take a sightseeing air tour flying over the Road to Hana, the craters & volcanoes of Haleakalā National Park, the West Maui Mountains and the sea cliffs of Molokai (tallest in the World)! Wowza! There’s a lot to discover, so get ready for an active and explorative journey on Hawaii’s 2nd largest island! Attention foodies… we have not forgotten you! We’ll sample and savor all of Maui’s tasty local cuisine! A unique island food experience begins in the misting forest of Waipoli in Upcountry Maui at O’o Farm. We’ll harvest our meal followed by a gourmet lunch prepared by a local chef. Prepare your tastebuds for the delicious local fish including Monchong, Mahi, Opah, Uhuh & Opakapaka prepared as poke, sashimi & fish tacos. Yum. We’re headed to the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal in South Asia! This petite country is sandwiched between its much bigger neighbors, China and India. While small in size, Nepal brims with breathtaking natural beauty and remarkable history! There is something for every nature junkie and culture addict! Nepal is where the Himalayas, the highest mountain range on the planet, traverses through. And it’s home to a whopping 8 of the 10 highest peaks in the world including Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on the globe! Besides all those impressive high mountain landscapes, Nepal boasts even more incredibly diverse scenery that will stop you in your tracks as you find the need to take it in all in. There are peaceful mountain lakes where serenity most certainly can be found, and flat expansive plains including subtropical jungle lowlands. Almost 19 percent of the country consists of protected wildlife areas - Nepal has nine National Parks, four Wildlife Reserves and three Conservation Areas. And then there are the distinctive cultural highlights where your curiosity will have a field day learning about the rich history and world-class, famous sites. Nepal abounds with an unparalleled collection of centuries-old palaces, stupas, monasteries, monuments, and temples. The three medieval kingdoms of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan are cultural powerhouses where you can wander the streets of ancient civilizations. Nepal is full of fascinating places! In fact, it’s home to 10 UNESCO World Heritage sites, 7 of which are in Kathmandu Valley alone! Gen X Travel Club specializes in non-touristy, responsible small group trips. Our partners on the ground in Nepal, are all local Nepalese residents. They are tourism professionals with extensive experience in providing tours in their country and follow sustainable/responsible travel principles. Note that we'll be traveling over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, which means you can use that holiday leave toward vacation time! Tell your family you'll see them the following month for the end of year holidays (e.g., Christmas & New Years)! Even though this is an 11 night/12 day trip, be assured that you definitely will not be able to fit everything in! Which is why many travelers return again for another visit. In fact, the official tagline of the Nepal Tourism Board is “Naturally Nepal, Once is not Enough,” which the tourism board says, “accurately captures the tourists' emotions at the airport’s departure gate!” Hope you’ll join us for this uncommon adventure to Nepal, one of the most intriguing countries you can visit!
