    Hey Ross,

What were the three focal points for Google on Local from last night's talk? I have Relevance and Authority for straight Google, but Local had Proximity and two others. My notes say Prominence and Authority, but that doesn't sound right.

How do you define SEO and SMO?

    • David P.

SEO has definitely changed over the years. It's still optimizing for search engines, but the search engines are always getting smarter. So when people say SEO is moving more towards optimizing content and optimizing the user experience, it's true because the search engines know whether content and/or a website is valuable to people. You should still be making your site crawlable by optimizing the different on-page factors, and you can still build [valuable and relevant] backlinks. But, if people don't like the site and don't engage with the website very much, search engines know this and take that into consideration. They haven't worked out all the kinks because I got a website to rank locally by putting certain keywords in the title tag, all relevant of course. But like I said, they are getting smarter. So to me SEO is creating a valuable experience for users while optimizing what goes on behind the scenes for a valuable experience for the search engine crawlers. What about you, Ron?
