This Meetup will begin at the Renaissance Center where we will have a brief orientation about the plan for the day. The Renaissance Center is 15 minutes from Bellevue or 30 minutes from downtown Nashville. Then we will travel by car 10 miles to historic and picturesque Ruskin Cave Resort where we will have exclusive access to the grounds.
We will spend the morning at the covered Hummingbird Pavilion. Participants will receive instruction on techniques to photograph Hummers including the setup of multiple Speedlites. The goal will be for each participant to take home stunning photos of the fearless little birds.
We will grill hotdogs and enjoy lunch with cool air inside the massive entrance to Ruskin Cave. This cave will seat over 1000 people!
After lunch, we will take our cameras inside Jewell Cave, also located on the grounds. Jewell Cave is a spectacular "show" cave which is closed to the general public. Gorgeous stalactites and rare cave formations abound. Foot travel is easy and the path through the cave is well lit.
Finish the day taking more Hummingbird photos during their late afternoon feeding frenzy. Or bring sandals to wade the gin clear waters of Yellow Creek and photograph the flora.
The scenic grounds offer many other photo opportunities from landscape to macro. Bring all your gear! Bring your swim suit and jump in the huge swimming pool.
The goal is great Hummingbird photos so the meetup is limited to only 6 participants. Facilities, instructor, some equipment and lunch is included.
While everyone is encourage to bring and use their own photography gear, a Canon 5D Mk3, multiple speedlites on stands and a remote release will be set up for all to use at the Hummingbird Pavilion. Bring a spare SD or Compact Flash card to take advantage of the camera and strobes which will produce photos that pop, like the photo above (taken at Ruskin).
More details will be provided to interested members who RSVP.
