I really enjoyed this meet up, however I think we should have gone at sunset or sunrise. The sun seemed very harsh and I was looking toward it many times. That being said it was a great place to take photos I was so into it I missed the post breakfast. I hope to do many more.

I am so sorry I missed the shoot this morning. Thought I was going out of town at the last minute, then I wasn't going...and forgot to change my RSVP. I hope there will be another cemetery photo shoot very soon!!

That was an amazing location and the perfect time of day. Sorry I couldn't stay for the after-shoot-breakfast but it was enjoyable.

Basically the deal is this, the cemetery shoot at Mt Olivet will go on whether we have forms or not. We tried and they did not have their act together, not our fault. They are aware we will be there so just plan to be respectful (I know I am preaching to the choir when I say this). Come to Mt Olivet or go to another if you so choose. I am not against going to another cemetery another day, or if Nashville is too far for you and the other suggestions are closer to home you can go to one of those. I hope to see everyone at Mt Olivet but if not, there will be plenty of times to meet people. Have a great day!

So what's the bottom line here, where did we diside on?

And to those who have decided to go to Springhill or another cemetery on the same day that I have suggested this one I am disappointed that you could not do that another day or possibly after the one already planned.

    August 14, 2012

    • James Q

I vote we stay together. I was throwing out another suggestion only in case we decide as a group to go there due to barriers Mt Olivet was appearing to throw out.

I would love to go out to another cemetery. I am a huge fan of photos of old stones and seeing the grave markers of folks. So if anyone wants to suggest that as a meetup on another day I am all for it. If anyone knows of a cemetery or site we can go to that might be great for fall let me know and we will set it up. I cannot stand going where everyone goes though, so let's try something other than the Smokies.

I am very excited to see so much dialogue going on here. I think I need to explain something about the form before everyone gets too twisted up about it. I have often been to the cemetery without the form. Since they are not making it easy to acquire the form I would not worry about it. And I certainly would not go because we cannot get the form. So for those who would like to be there I will be there. we can meet at the large parking lot at the bottom of the hill by Mt Olivet. See you all there. Afterward if anyone is interested in comparing photos we can head over to the Shoney's for breakfast (in Donelson near the I40 ramp) and see what we took. I always find something interesting to photograph there.

Violet, Alex, I just called the cemetery also. I should have called earlier as it is the end of business. I was given the same phone number [masked]) for a company called Stewart Enterprises. Went through several folks at this number as you did, the last one I spoke with took down my phone number and email and said she would have the person who handles this, Courtney Southerly, email me the form and call me back in the morning. I will advise if/when I get the form.

Geeeze, no kidding. No way to get a rider for this in time, not to mention the expense. I plan on showing up.

Forecast is calling for a cloudy day Saturday, the coolest morning this summer at 59°, with a good chance for morning fog. I did some digging around, the Mt Olivet Cemetery is “open to the public” during daylight hours. I also did some looking around via satellite map images and street views with Google Maps. That stone gate entry into Mt Olivet might be worth an early morning trip all by itself, especially if there is some fog. Link to a screen capture if it works:

There seemed to be more mausoleums and above ground structures at Mt Olivet than at Spring Hill when viewing from above using Google Maps. I have never been to either so I am not sure. The best light might be a bit earlier than 7 with sunrise at 6.

I have shot at the Mt. Olivet. They have a lot of interest. Here is my photos. Some of these are from the Nashville City Cemetery (the square ones) but the majority are from Mt. Olivet. http://www.flickr.com...

Hey James. I think that is a great idea. Since it was founded in 1785, there should be some impressive markers. How does everyone else feel about making it the choice for this Saturday at 7 am?

Sounds good to me. I found this web site that lists 21 famous people that are buried there. http://www.findagrave...

I vote for Spring Hill as the other has already been complicated with the request and submission of the liability form. Just a thought.

How about Spring Hill Cemetery, which was founded in 1785, only 6 years after Nashville was founded?

How about the Carnton Cemetery in Franklin? It's a tourist attraction.

Any old cemetery with interesting tomb stones and markers would be ideal. I don't think anyone would mind a bunch of photographers at 7 am. =) I am game for whatever Paul or Susan consider worthwhile.

Can someone scan the form into a PDF so we can download and print?

I called this morning to obtain the release form. I was instructed to call the main office at[masked] for the form. They transferred me to billing in error, then customer care which does not handle release forms, then onto marketing where I left a message. I will keep you posted of my progress in obtaining a release form and give specific instructions once I find the correct source and requirement. Happy Monday!

Hi everyone. The cemetery asks that if you are planning to come you contact them for a form for insurance liability reasons so they know who is on the premises. I did this the last time that Teal had this organized this group to attend a photo shoot there. Please call them at[masked] to get a copy of the form and submit it before Saturday's shoot. It is a policy for them and something we should respect. I also ask that everyone be respectful of the Cemetery while at the shoot. Please clean up after yourselves if you bring water bottles or snacks.
