Walking and Social Weekend in the Gower Peninsula
Whenever you talk to anyone who has been to the the Gower Peninsula you end up in a long conversation because it's hard to find anyone who didn't just love it. We visited this location as a group for the first time last October and had a fabulous time so we thought it would be really nice to go back in the summer when it's warm enough to dip more than your toe in the water. The UK's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty probably speaks volumes. We have exclusive use of the same highly recommended and very comfortable bunkhouse accommodation for Friday and Saturday night, breakfasts and packed lunches Saturday and Sunday, massive dinner spread on Saturday night and choice of walks on Saturday and Sunday with extra bonus walk on Friday for those who can get away early enough. Friday arrival at our accommodation is from anytime after 6pm but we will lay on a bonus walk for those who can arrive for 12 noon with lots of routes to choose from. We are not catering on Friday night so eat on the way, visit one of the excellent local pubs before you get to the accommodation or bring your own grub and cook it yourself. This is intended to be a sociable event all weekend so expect a bit of party music both nights and if you play a musical instrument or can provide some other entertainment for us feel free. Help yourself cooked breakfasts and packed lunches are provided as is hot and cold party food Saturday night but please bring desserts, cakes and other goodies to share as well as your own drinks. Tea and coffee will be provided. Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms of a variety of sizes with full bedding provided but not towels. Saturday and Sunday we intend to have both short and long walks to hopefully meet everyone's requirements and we are hoping to get some help leading these if some of you regular walk leaders wouldn't mind. Please contact Gordon directly for details. We shall also do our best to visit the tidal island at Worm Head and hopefully this time won't have to come back in the dark! Total cost for the weekend including all food, accommodation, walks and parties(!) is just £79 which needs to be paid when you book. If you have to cancel more than 28 clear days before the event start date you will get a full refund less 15% cancellation fee. If you cancel with less than 28 but more than 14 clear days notice the cancellation fee increases to 50%. No refunds will be provided to those cancelling with less than 14 clear days notice. ("clear" means does not include event start date or cancellation date!) If choosing to travel by public transport the nearest mainline station is Swansea and we could pick you up from there with trains from London, Birmingham or Manchester. We think it's a great venue in a brilliant location so come and join us.

What we're about

The UK's 15 National Park areas and our UK National Trails are some of the most awesome places to walk on Earth and we want to take you there on weekends away or longer trips.

http://www.nationalparks.gov.uk/

http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/

Whilst of their nature many of these places include uphill terrain and wild moorland walking we aim to tackle longer and more difficult routes in easy stages where most with previous walking experience and reasonable levels of fitness can join in.

We use YHA and independent hostels for accommodation typically with single sex shared rooms for four people or occasionally six and the cost of breakfasts are included in our very low costs. Evening meals are normally taken in a local pub or restaurant. Bedding is provided in the hostels, sleeping bags are not required, but you need to take your own towels.

We don't arrange transport to our events but car sharing is the norm and we can usually arrange a pickup from the nearest station if using public transport.

We do have full Civil Liability Insurance and your money is protected through a designated Trust Account according to UK and EU Travel Package regulations.

This Meetup group is one of three who work together to deliver a regular diary of day walks in the Peak District and walking weekends and other events across all of the UK's National Parks and National Trails.

Financially, all three groups are managed through a not for profit limited company, Peak Activities and Leisure Limited to ensure complete transparency. We have no paid staff or leaders so costs for weekends away and other activities can be kept to a minimum and we do not charge separately for individual walks.

Our Peak District group which principally offers regular day walks in the Peak District National Park does charge a £10 Annual Subscription to cover insurance and other costs whilst our other groups offering primarily weekends away are subscription free.

Should you have any questions about the group or how it operates, please message Gordon Conway via Meetup or email gconwayuk@gmail.com.
