What we're about
Let’s get together for informal nature ramblings in which we can explore the beauty of nature through the medium of sketching and journaling in the mountains, meadows, forests and high desert around Bend. This is also a great bonding activity for nature-loving kids and their parents. As John Muir said so eloquently "Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where Nature may heal and cheer and give strength to body and soul alike."
I envision us meeting weekly to monthly - outdoors at local natural areas, and at public spaces such as the High Desert Museum, Sunriver Nature Center, etc, and indoors during inclement weather and the winter time for potlucks, journal sharing, and technique workshops. We could even arrange camping trips and more far flung ventures to places such as the Painted Hills, Malheur Basin, or the Wallowas Mountains.
Perhaps after a while, we might even schedule our own art show to showcase our work. The sky's the limit and I welcome your ideas!
All ages and skills levels are welcome and encouraged to join. It is my philosophy that the goal is to gain understanding and appreciation for the natural world through the act of documenting what you see and not just to draw a pretty picture!
Suggested materials for bringing to our Meetups include a sketchbook and a pencil. If you'd like to see a long list of ALL my favorite drawing materials I use see the file I uploaded under the More tab in the navigation bar.
