Let's explore a wild west coast beach. Peer into tide pools and discover anemones, goose-neck barnacles, sponges, nudibranches, chitons, sea stars, crabs, sculpins, mollusks, and acres of red, brown and green algae.
Walk further along the beach and discover Cenozoic fossils of the Sooke Formation exposed in sandstone cliff faces.
We will be carpooling from the Park & Ride near the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre at the corner of the (Island Highway/Sooke Rd) and Ocean Bvld. It is across the highway from Tim Hortons in Colwood. Meet at 10:00am.
Dpending on the group and what discoveries we make we should be back in Colwood by 3:00pm. Bring intertidal field guides, binoculars, a picnic lunch, and your camera.
