Smithsonian Observatory (http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/press/skyreport/resources.html)

I see that the
HARVARD-SMITHSONIAN CENTER FOR ASTROPHYSICS
60 GARDEN STREET
CAMBRIDGE, MA 02138
has their monthly public viewing this week on Thursday night. I've never been to this observatory, and it's right in Cambridge?! (who knew?)

Let's go see what there is to see, and maybe grab a bite to eat after.
Plenty of restaurants on Mass Ave outside of Harvard Square, I'm up for suggestions.

from the CfA:

You are invited to join us for the first CfA Observatory Night of the[masked] academic year. This Thursday, Sept. 20th, Roy Gould and Mary Dussault of CfA's Science Education Department will offer a presentation on "A Quarter Million Customers Served!"

For about 20 years, a fleet of automated telescopes called MicroObservatory has offered schoolkids across the nation a chance to take pictures of the sky, and to get those pictures delivered to them online. MicroObservatory has achieved a milestone: its 250,000th image. On Thursday, meet the student who took the record 250,000th MicroObservatory photo, and learn how you can use MicroObservatory too.

This event takes place at 7:30 pm on Thursday, Sept. 20th at Phillips Auditorium, 60 Garden Street, Cambridge. Doors open at 7:00. Seating is first-come, first-served and admission is free. Parking is available to everyone after 5 pm. (Ignore the "staff only" signs.)

If weather permits, rooftop observing through telescopes will follow the presentation.

For more information or directions, visit http://www.cfa.harvar... (http://www.cfa.harvard.edu) or call (617)[masked].
