Upcoming Events not yet on the Calendar (April and May)

Upcoming Events for April and May:

I've been waiting for the warmer weather to plan these and put them on the calendar.

* The Salem Ferry: The Salem Ferry starts back up on Friday, May 22, 2009, taking off near the Aquarium and dropping you off near the Salem Maritime National Historic Park. The site http://www.nps.gov/sama/ lists numerous self-guided walking tours, both historical and architectural around Salem. "Ranger-guided tours for groups of 30 or less will be offered by reservation Thursday-Sunday between 9:30 a.m. and noon. Please call[masked] at least three days in advance to make reservations"... The Peabody Essex Museum http://pem.org/ with "Free Daily Public Tours" are also available. "Art and Architecture in Salem" covers the museum's historic houses. Sure, you can drive or take the commuter rail, but the Salem Ferry sounds like a great way to travel once or twice.

* Historic Boston House tours: The Gibson House in Back Bay, The Nichols House Museum in Beacon Hill, the William Hickling Prescott House on Beacon Street. Why go to just one skimpy half-hour tour when you can race to go to three houses? ... Or you can go to the Otis Houses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrison_Gray_Otis_House at the West End, on Mount Vernon Street, and on Beacon Street, the last one home to the American Meteorological Society.

* Hidden Gardens of Beacon Hill: 80th Anniversary: Thanks Doreen for putting this on my radar late last summer! http://www.beaconhillgardenclub.org/tour.html .. this is held Thursday, May 21, 2009, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. rain or shine. "On May 21, twelve member gardens and four ribbon gardens will be open to the public. Four of the twelve member gardens have never been seen before. And we are delighted to be able to show anew a recently renovated member garden on Walnut Street". I might want to take a half-day off of work just to go on this one. The William Hickling Prescott House is having a $20.00 Gourmet Box Lunch at 12:00 pm then at 1:00 pm.

* Boston Harbor Islands: Spectacle Island. George's Island. Self-Guided GPS tours. Boston Light and Little Brewster Island. We explored many of them last August... what we didn't explore was Deer Island, more specifically the Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour held "April through early November beginning at 9:30 a.m" the first Tuesday of each month. http://www.mwra.state.ma.us/03sewer/html/sewdi_access.htm ... I just might see if I can go to work late the first Tuesday in May...

Well, this is what I have planned. What do you have planned? Any geeky or nerdy lectures or tours you want to go on? See anything on Fred Hapgood's site BostonScienceAndEngineeringLectures.com -- an excellent resource -- at http://www.bostonscienceandengineeringlectures.com/ ? Write an email to Heather http://www.meetup.com/NerdFunBoston/members/74173/ to get Assistant Organizer privileges, so you can post events to the Nerd Fun calendar. Allow everyone. Don't allow Maybe RSVPs. Allow Maybe RSVPs. Cap the limit at 10, 20, or 30 people. Feel free to alter the event to your unique nerdy tastes!

See you at the next Meetup!

By the way, is anyone going to the Boston Comic Con? It's being held Sat. Apr 4th and Sun. Apr 5th, 2009 at the Back Bay Events Center at 180 Berkeley Street in Boston. Become an assistant organizer and set up a Nerd Fun event for 10, 15, or 20 people. A review is at http://www.comicsbulletin.com/news/123302262370741.htm ... it would probably be only a bit of digging to find the official site so you can create a write-up of the event and post it to the calendar, emailing everyone about it.
