Nerds in Public: Lucy (with Scarlett Johansson)

BACK TO THE ORIGINAL PLAN

---

Another movie will bring us another Nerds in Public event.

This time Nerd HQ will be venturing out to see LUCY.  Your event host for the evening will be me, Lori! We will be going to the 8:05pm showing at Metropolis at Metrotown.

DETAILS:

• You must purchase your own ticket to the movie. Once purchased, please feel free to write a note to say which seat you have so other Nerd HQ members can get something nearby. CLICK ME! for a direct link to Cineplex website.  Please make sure that the date is correct.

• Arrival time is 7:30 to allow for some chatter before the movie or purchasing concession, etc.  The movie starts  at 8:05pm.

• After the movie, meet up in the lobby for some discussion of how great the movie was, and of course, group photo ;)

Movie Synopsis: In a world run by the mob, street gangs, drug addicts and corrupt cops, Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) is a woman living in Taipei,Taiwan who is forced to work as a drug mule for the mob. The drug implanted in her body inadvertently leaks into her system, which allows her to use more than the normal 10% of her brain's capacity, thus changing her into a superhuman. As a result, she can absorb information instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind, and can choose not to feel pain or other discomforts

The nerds I met were a great/likeable bunch. The movie plot was weak, but the premise of the movie was thought provoking, intriguing, if you will.

Interesting conversations afterwards about spiders, snakes, platypus, snow on windshields, stick shift, and other conversations....

    Where is meeting spot

    July 26, 2014

Some of us know each other, so it is easy for them. Most often it has been around the escalator before the movie. I am uncertain about afterwards. It could be the theatre entrance, or a large poster board with "Lucy" on it. For those that don't, we'll be looking for Lori - "I'll be wearing a neon yellow biker jacket, and will probably have a NERD sign waving around :)"

Which one at 8:05 are people booking for? There are two types at the same time.

    1 · July 26, 2014

    • Joe

You may be seeing two prices for the same movie. Vibrating seats are rows (I,J,K I believe). Reading the comments posted here, most of us seem to be in row H.

Ah, I see, makes sense. I got g23 so I'll be close to the rest of the group.

    UPDATE:

    _______________________________________________
Looks like Metrotown won't be showing LUCY this weekend.

Options are either COLOSSUS (Coquitlam) or SCOTIABANK (Downtown Vancouver).

Please e-mail with preference or post in comments section!

    Cheers,

    Lori

Just keep in mind that this Saturday and next are the Celebration of Lights fireworks, with events starting at 1:50 pm and the fireworks going from 10 pm to 10:25. This means between 300 and 400,000 people in the downtown area who are also trying to get places. The largest rush of people for transit out of downtown will be after 10:30, of course, but the area around the Scotiabank Theatre will be very crowded. I don't go downtown on Fireworks nights but I know the Kits side of English Bay, where there are probably more like 100K people, is packed, ie all streets from Broadway to Kits Point. http://hondacelebrati...

      Here are transit changes: http://www.translink....

    Scotiabank it is!

  • Lori

Just sent this out as an email, but for anyone on the fence about coming:
    ______________________________________________
Would anyone be interested in seeing the film at the Coquitlam Colossus or the Scotiabank Theatre downtown?

Colossus has the film screening in both VIP+ and UltraAVX and Scotia has it in AVX.

AND, they have the showtimes posted!

    --

Of course, we can always wait for Metropolis to get its act together :)

Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Been checking the Cineplex website daily. They still haven't listed a start time for Saturday. *sigh* will keep you guys up to date!

FYI: Some of us are doing Star Trek Card Gaming at Fontana from 1-4PM, followed by dinner before the movie. If anyone wants to join in give me a shout! The more the merrier!!!

    Cool movie trailer!

    July 13, 2014

    • Gayle

Just realised this is the first fireworks night so I don't want to be going through downtown or taking transit that night! I'll have to see it on my own. Have fun.
