My therapist has recommended that I start this meetup group as part of my JW Cult healing therapy.
I have been wanting to start an ExJW (Ex-Jehovah's Witness) meetup group locally here in New Albany, IN. I have been conflicted because I have no desire to lead any ExJWs toward any faith or non-faith direction. For anyone who is healing from a cult environment, me included, evangelism...
: to try to convert (a group or area) to a different religion (especially Christianity)
...can feel very threatening and can even feel dangerous. I believe that ExJWs, me included, can be in a very vulnerable state as we are detoxing from leaving and healing from the JW Cult climate. Belonging is important and is human nature but not at the cost of freedom.
I want my group to have some sense of purpose being part healing and part social. To be healing and social for me and for other ExJWs, friends, family and healing supporters. I'm not clear as to what this ExJW meetup group should look like.
One idea was to host a book club type setting starting off with reading CRISIS OF CONSCIENCE, Ray Franz.
I think I just need to dive in and give this ExJW meetup group a try, fears and all. I can learn from and apologize for my hiccups, flops and mistakes along the way. I may also benefit from any healing successes along the way. I won't know unless I try.

SOAR Ministries is a ministry where I have received much healing from my past childhood sexual abuse. Because I am a client of SOAR, I have requested and have been given permission to use the SOAR Ministry Center as a meeting space for my ExJW Meetup Group. SOAR (Survivor's of Abuse Restored) is not a faith or religious denomination.
