VERY STRENUOUS HIKE. PREREQUISITE: MUST HAVE ATTENDED OVER 50 STRENUOUS HIKE.

NOTE: THIS HIKE IS CONTINGENT ON GOOD WEATHER & SUBJECT TO CANCELLATION IN THE EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER.

This group is for hikers 50-70+(most of us are 55-65)  who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. We hike at a pace 50% slower than the AMC Trailguide book time. Hike ratings: easy,easy/moderate, moderate, advanced moderate,moderate/strenuous, strenuous, very strenuous. On the home page,if you click on the PAGES button there is a hike rating system which explains the wait list.

We start as a group,we hike as a group and we end as a group. If you think you may not be able to keep up with the group, do not carpool. There are three other hiking Meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes (The New England Hiking Meetup, 4 Seasons Hiking Group, New England Over 40 Hiking Group). The hiking Meetup group, (Fellowship Of The Tortoise) does easier, slower paced hikes than  this group.  Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camaraderie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. If you click on the PAGES button on the home page, there is a Summer Hiking Gear List. This is a dog free hiking group. Everybody must join the group and have a picture up to be on a hike.

Trailhead:Take I93 north to exit 32.Take the Kancamagus Highway (NH112) east, just after passing the Jigger Johnson Campground, make a left onto Bear Notch Road (not on all highway maps), in Bartlett make a left onto US302, make a left onto Sawyer River Road, in 2 miles the parking lot for Signal Ridge Trail is on the left, just over the bridge for the Whiteface Brook.

This is a VERY STRENUOUS HIKE. The "wait list" rules will be in effect to insure a safe & enjoyable experience. We will hike the Signal Ridge Trail to the summit of Mount Carrigain (4700'). Magnificent views from the fire tower on the summit. 10 miles round trip, 3,300' elevation gain, AMC book time 6.5 hours; 9-10 hours estimated time for our group. It will be a full day; plan accordingly.

Concord carpool details: Looks like it's me, Sharon & Kathy @ this time. Anne has opted to go via Route 16. If we plan on leaving Concord @ 6:15 AM, that should be good. We'll meet in the normal back lot that straddles LL Bean & Hannaford's. See you in the morning. If others are interested, please let me know.

I could come up 93 but not too familiar with Concord. Is there a Park and Ride off 93? Also, I am not sure if your group goes out after the hike, but I would not be doing it because it is a 3 hour ride back.
