"It is marvelous – crackling with dance that snaps like a whip in a program framed successfully by a sophisticated context." – The New York Times

After performing its rich and colorful repertoire in front of more than seven and a half million people in 44 country across four continents, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble is regarded as one of the greatest folkloric dance ensembles in the world. The ensemble’s aim of collecting and playing authentic folk music and preserving the folk dances and traditional costumes of Hungary and the Hungarian-inhabited areas is on full display in their exceptional presentation. The Ensemble’s choreography is based on authentic dances, some of them collected in isolated villages with dance elements dating back hundreds of years. The extraordinary folk music that inspired Liszt, Bartók, and Kodály is put on stage by both the world-famous Gypsy Orchestra, and the Folk Orchestra, whose members perform on authentic, traditional instruments.

Join the Modlin Center at 6:30pm for a free pre-performance Artistic Viewpoint with a member of the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble. Location: Gardner Lecture Room, Modlin Center for the Arts
