Have you ever wondered how the trails you hike or bike on are built and maintained? Here's a chance to learn some of the basics. Courtesy of the Albuquerque REI Store, two experienced NMVFO project leaders, will discuss the fundamentals of trail work by demonstrating the tools used and giving a PowerPoint presentation featuring trail projects on public lands throughout New Mexico. Some short videos will help show how volunteers safely refurbish and build trails. In addition to an RSVP, those who want to attend need to register no later than March 12 on the Albuquerque REI web site: https://www.rei.com/stores/albuquerque.html.
Because of the size of the classroom, attendance will be limited to about 40 people, so be sure to register!!!
For those who would then like some on-the-job training, the NMVFO in partnership with the Albuquerque Open Space Division will be conducting a trail construction and maintenance project in the Foothills Open Space on Saturday, March 16. (This is project is described in the NMVFO's next Meet Up event.)
