What we're about

We are secular Jews who love being Jewish- but who no longer accept the "God-obedience" paradigm for our spiritual and ethical guidance.

What is envisioned is not a new congregation, but a "havurah"- a small group of like-minded Jews who gather informally to explore, to study, discuss and celebrate a new approach to our ancient heritage.

In a havurah, there's no rabbi to lead us- just ourselves. There is no synagogue either- just our own homes.

It's an ambitious idea, but we are hardly alone in doing this. Secular Jewish havurahs are springing up all over the country, so we have a network of resources and creative, thoughtful and inspiring people (like us!) to draw from.

This will be the first organizational meeting of our new "havurah": a small group of secular Jews who gather informally to explore, to study, discuss and celebrate a new approach to our ancient heritage. The location is our old farmhouse in New Paltz- just a few miles north of the town center, on the west side of Old Kingston Road. Kids welcome. There should be plenty of room but to reserve a seat, RSVP to: [masked]
