Performance Tuning Antipatterns with Ben Evans!

Performance testing is incredibly difficult to do well, and certain negative practices (antipatterns) are unfortunately frequently observed. This talk addresses these common antipatterns found in performance testing and explains the impact that they can have if left unaddressed. Join Ben Evans for a discussion focused on organizational and process antipatterns, rather than anything specific to a particular technology stack. The antipatterns are supported by experience from real-world examples (although the names have been changed to spare the blushes of the organizations concerned). Each antipattern is accompanied by a best practice or solution to avoid or mitigate the problems that can be encountered. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About our speaker: Ben Evans is Principal Engineer and Architect for JVM technologies at New Relic. Prior to joining New Relic, Ben co-founded jClarity (acquired by Microsoft) and was Chief Architect (Listed Derivatives) at Deutsche Bank. Ben has been active in Free and Open Source Software for over 20 years, co-founded the AdoptOpenJDK initiative, and served on the Java Community Process Executive Committee for six years. Ben is the author of Optimizing Java, the recently-updated Java in a Nutshell, 7th Edition, The Well-Grounded Java Developer, and Java: The Legend. He is the Java / JVM track lead at InfoQ, a frequent contributor to Oracle's Java magazine and a regular speaker at conferences worldwide. ------------------------------ Doors will open at 5:30 for light food, drinks and networking. The talk will begin at 6pm, followed by Q&A which will run until ~ 7:30pm. **Please RSVP! Due to fire code, if attendance hits capacity you will be turned away at the door. -------------------------------- Our events are inclusive, and all are welcome. All guests are asked to adhere to our code of conduct both at the event and in our online forums. Our space is ADA accessible, with gender neutral restrooms. If you have additional accessibility requests, please reach out 2 weeks prior to the event and we will do our best to accommodate them.
