Basics: This an
Intermediate hike. Terrain: Rolling hikes with some steep sections Elevation Gain: About 4.000 ft Distance: 10 Miles Hiking Pace: Moderate
Hike Route: We will meet in Tuxedo, car pool to the Appalachian trail head a mile north and hike the Lemon Squeezer, some of the AT and the Ramapo-Dunderberg.
Getting a Spot: - RSVP with a Yes if are planning on coming. There is no "Maybe". - Update your RSVP if you can't make it. - You will see a page of questions after you RSVP. You must answer these questions.
Public Transportation Meeting Location & Return Time: From Penn Station, take the 9:14 AM NEC Train to Secaucus Junction. Transfer to the 09:31 AM - MNBNP to Tuxedo. It's worth taking the 9:07 train to Secaucus Junction in order to give yourself a little more time to make the transfer Arrive at Penn at 8:45am so you'll have to time to buy your ticket (there is often a line). Hikers coming from Penn Station sometimes gather informally at the Perfumania outside the NJ-Transit section at 9am. No organizer will be there, and if you don't see anyone, you should take the train alone. We will take the 4:20 pm train back (arriving at 5:30 pm at Penn Station).
Car Drivers and Riders Drivers, if you are willing to offer rides to others, please note where you are driving from in your RSVP. Plan to arrive at the Tuxedo train station at 10am.
- Standard day-hiking gear (with some warm layers and a winter hat)
- 2 liters of water = 2 quarts = half a gallon at minimum.
- Lunch and Snacks
- Hiking map of Harriman park area
- Poncho or rain gear just in case A more detailed description of proper day hiking equipment can be found
All the maps we use are available through the H&N store. The Harriman map set covers with hike.
Forecast for the western side of Harriman
After the Hike: -Upload your pictures and review the hike! -Remember to check yourself for ticks. Deer Ticks are barely the size of a newsprint period and often carry
Lyme Disease, so check yourself carefully. See you on the trail!
