Nov. 23 & 24 - Rock Classes in New Hampshire - spots available

From: Kennedy
Sent on: Friday, November 15, 2013 8:43 AM

Just a quick note to tell you some spots have opened up for the Rock climbing Classes in New Hampshire on the 23rd.

I've been able to arrange the finest instruction for the least cost so I am hoping people will take advantage of this opportunity.

We have beginners, intermediates, and advanced people already signed up, so you will have company at your level.

This is the description:

The Mountaineering Series of H&N will begin in November with essential techniques of rock climbing and move into mixed Snow, Rock, Ice, and technical mountaineering by the end of the Spring Season. You can go to one event or many depending on how much you want to learn.

Beginners can start with the basics of scrambling and rock climbing and move into movement on snow and ice by December.  More advanced climbers can begin with skills review,  anchor setting, multi-pitch set-ups and bring those skills to the steep snow and ice by December.  In  the late winter we'll have one day of lessons and a second day of independent climbs or hikes.

The International Mountain Climbing School in North Conway, New Hampshire will keep track of the progress of each climber and work with them during the season to ensure each person is achieving their goals.

November Courses will Cover:

Beginning Skills:

- belaying skills,
- rappelling
- basic anchoring systems,
- multi-pitch climbing techniques
- physical climbing skills

Intermediate Skills:

- Review belaying and anchoring systems,
- Review rappelling,
- Placement and removal of climbing gear
- Main focus will be on advancing climbing technique, understanding the multi-pitch systems and becoming familiar with a variety of anchor systems

This is the Deal:

Group Classes are with the International Mountain Climbing School (IMCS) in North Conway, NH.   The rate will be $220 per person for two days of instruction.  All climbing equipment will be provided by the school.

Lodging for the weekend will be $46 dollars for the weekend at the North Conway Hotel.

This is the Plan:

Friday, Nov. 22nd: We'll leave NYC early on Friday (3:00 pm) and drive to North Conway NH, and stay at the Conway Hostel.

Saturday, Nov. 23rd: Start out early and arrive at the school to fit gear and go to the mountain. The lessons will be an 8-hour day of skills and practice.

Dinner at the Wolverine Grill w/live band (always fun!)

Sunday, Nov. 24th: Start out early and begin the second day of instruction.  Learning belay methods, rope handling, and alpine climbing technique.

We'll wrap up by 4:30 and be on the road by 5 back in NYC by 10 or 11pm.

How to Get a Spot:

First, RSVP Yes (Link to Event)

Next, call the climbing school at (603)[masked], mention Hiking and Nature NYC's group trip on Nov 23 & 24 and they will walk you through the payment process.

Lastly, send a note to Kennedy and lodging information will be sent.

A note from the Organizer:

Last year's classes were very good.  People came away with the confidence and skills to move safely through the mountains.  I hope you will take this opportunity to learn new skills.  I will be there each step of the way ensuring each participating H&N member is receiving the level of instruction they need.

Please feel free to contact me with questions.
